Moelter Pitches No Hitter In Win
Chambersburg, PA - After missing out on several games over the last two weeks due to inclement weather, the Villa Julie Softball team got what they wanted, to play. The Mustangs won the double-header against Wilson College, 9-1 and 6-3. The Mustangs improved their overall record to 8-12 with the non-conference win.
In the 1st game, it was the impressive pitching of Sarah Moelter and a dynamic offensive display that set the Mustangs up for a 9-1 win after 5 innings. Moelter pitched a NO HITTER through 5 innings (64 pitches). Sarah gave up 0 hits, 1 walk, struck out 8, and 1 run leading to no earned runs. On offense the Mustangs let fly with the bats, Jackie Wineke went 0 for 1 (1 run scored and a stolen base), Jackie Dorsey 0 for 3 (1 RBI), Emily Roper 2 for 2 (1 double and 1 RBI), Jessica Bandzwolek 3 for 3 (3 doubles and 2 RBI's), Jessie O'Neill 1 for 3 (2 RBI's) Lindsey Mueller 1 for 4 (1 RBI), Sam Rice 2 for 4 (1 RBI) and Elizabeth Penniman 3 for 4 (1 RBI, 2 run scored).
In game 2, the contest was called after a full 5 innings were completed due to rain with VJC leading Wilson by a score of 6-3. Julianne Roper pitched the win, throwing 74 pitches in 5 innings, giving up only 4 hits, no walks, struck out 5, and 3 runs with 1 earned run. On offense, Jackie Dorsey went 2 for 3 (1 Triple and 1 RBI), Jessica Bandzwolek 2 for 3 (2 RBI's), Jessie O'Neill 3 for 3, Sam Rice 1 for 3, and Elizabeth Penniman 1 for 3 (1 RBI).
The Mustangs have little rest as they play conference foe Gallaudet University on Saturday at 1pm on their home turf, the Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
