Softball Finishes Third In Inaugural CAC Season
Salisbury, MD - After the Mustangs stunning upset of the number 2 seeded York College, Villa continued on Sunday in their quest to win the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. Villa Julie faced the number 3 seeded Mary Washington Eagles but could not pull off another upset, losing 3-2 in a 7 inning nail-biter to finish the season in third place.
Mary Washington scored the first run of the day in the bottom of the first inning to go up 1-0 on the Mustangs. Villa Julie scored two runs in the third inning to take the 2-1 lead over the Eagles. Mary Washington went on to tie the game 2-2 in the fourth inning and scored once more in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Mustangs 3-2.
Scoring for the Mustangs was Sam Rice and Jackie Wineke. Sarah Moelter pitched the whole game allowing 9 hits and 3 earned runs. The Mustangs matched the Eagles, getting off 9 hits against a strong Mary Washington defense.
The Mustangs finished up their first season in the CAC with a 3-9 in-conference record and are currently 12-13 overall.
