Softball Season Opener at Gallaudet Postponed

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rain and inclement weather has postponed Sunday's season opening CAC doubleheasder for the Stevenson University softball team. No make-up date has been set.

The Mustangs enter the 2009 season needing to replace six starters, including All-CAC First Team selection Elizabeth Penniman. The team will look to do so with an 18-player roster that includes 10 freshmen and four sophomores.

However, one of those sophomores is 2008 CAC Rookie of the Year and Division III Newsletter Preseason Second Team All-American Jessica Bandzwolek (Fallston/Fallston). She led the team with a .442 average, 17 doubles and a .653 slugging percentage while ranking second on the team with 42 hits and 25 RBIs.

Also returning is the team's top pitcher in junior Sarah Moelter (Timonium/Dulaney), who led the team in wins, innings and ERA. She made 16 starts and totaled 13 complete games, 62 strikeouts, two shutouts and a 2.27 ERA in 99.0 innings.

Stevenson is now scheduled to open the season next weekend at the 2009 Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast. The Mustangs face Staten Island on Friday at 10:00 a.m., before taking on host Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 p.m. For more information, click here.
