OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball junior Lindsay Kuczak (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) hit her fourth career home run and first of the season as the Mustangs split a pair of games in a Commonwealth Conference match-up with Messiah Saturday at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
The Mustangs (15-17, 6-8 MAC) dropped game one 5-3 before winning game two, 1-0.
Kuczak hit the third home run in the last eight games for the Mustangs who now have six on the season from five different players. It was also the fifth doubleheader in the last seven that Stevenson has earned a split.
Stevenson fell behind 2-0 before scoring in back-to-back innings to tie the game at 2-2.
However, the Falcons (23-11, 9-5 MAC) three-run fifth inning in game one proved to be the difference.
Freshman Kristen Mueller (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) led the team, going 2-for-3 with two runs while fellow freshmen Tiffany Kahl (Glen Burnie, Md./Seton Keough) and Brianna Dieter (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) each had one RBI.
Kuczak's solo home run in the third inning of game two turned out to be all the Mustangs needed as they posted their third shutout of the season.
Freshman Molly Hoyt (Parisppany, N.J./Parisppany Hills) went 2-for-3 at the plate while also earning the win in the circle, scattering nine hits to earn the second shutout of her career.
Stevenson travels Lycoming on Sunday for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with the Warriors beginning at 1:00 p.m.
