Head Coach Joey Lye Named to Team Canada, Captain For Summer Tour

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball head coach Joey Lye is one of 20 players that has been named to the Canadian Women's National Team and will represent their country at the World Cup of Softball XI, the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Tournament and ISF XIV World Championship of Softball.

The selections were made on Monday, June 30 following the conclusion of Team Canada's eight-day Selection Camp which began on Wednesday, June 11 in Oklahoma City. Lye will play for the red and white for the fifth season and will captain the team for the second-straight. She will also be the starting shortstop for the third-straight year.

Lye begins her summer tour with team Canada at The General Tire World Cup of Softball IX where a record number of eight countries will be participating. The 32-game event will be hosted by Southern California ASA in Irvine, California beginning on Monday, July 7 through Sunday, July 13 at Bill Barber Park in conjunction with the Champions Cup.

Last year Lye, was the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter, batting .313 while leading the team in hits, runs scored and stolen bases as Canada went 3-2 and finished in fourth place in World Cup play behind champion Japan, the United States and Australia.

Canada will open this year's tournament against the defending World Cup champions. See below for Canada's full round-robin schedule:

Following the World Cup, Canada is scheduled to compete in the Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship which will be held from Friday, July 11 through Monday, July 21 in Surrey, British Columbia. A year ago, Lye made the All-Tournament Team at the Canadian Open where Team Canada placed third in an event won by the United States. The schedule has yet to be announced.

Prior to the World Championships, Team Canada will participate in a pre-World Exhibition week from Sunday, August 3 through Friday, August 8 in Toronto, Canada with opponents to be announced.

The ISF XIV World Championship of Softball will be held in Haarlem, Netherlands August 15-24. This year marks the first year that the championship will be held in Europe.

The world's premier women's softball event on the international calendar will feature 16 nations representing all five regions of the globe in 56 matches in a round-robin format, followed by 10 double elimination contests. Games will be held at Nol Houtkamp Sportpark's two competition venues in Haarlem.

Last year, Lye went 1-for-4 with a run in their opening game versus Puerto Rico before suffering an injury. See below for Team Canada's full round-robin schedule:
