Villa Julie advances to NEAC Finals

Keuka Park, NY. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women's Basketball Final Four kicked off with two exciting games at the host site, Keuka College, on Fri., Feb. 23.

The second game of the evening featured a NEAC South rematch between the tournament's second seed, the Villa Julie College Mustangs, and the third seeded team, the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College.  A close game down the stretch, like the first contest of the night, the Mustangs prevailed with a 60-58 victory over the Griffins.

The first half of the second game was a low-scoring affair as the two teams combined for five blocks.  Chestnut Hill went into the intermission up a point, 21-20, thanks to a Griffin layup, with less than a minute left on the clock, from Andrea Carter ('07, Philadelphia, Pa. / Hallahan HS).

The two teams exchanged leads through the first seven minutes of the second stanza.  Villa Julie pulled ahead for a stretch, 35-33, on an old-fashion three-point play that was converted by the Mustang's Tanisha Foster  (Baltimore, Md/St. Frances HS).  Down by around four-points for the majority of the next five minutes, Chestnut Hill cut the lead to one point, 58-57, when Katelin Formica (Schwenksville, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty HS) hit a bucket with just 1:32 remaining on the clock.  The Griffins tied the game on the next possession when Judy Parise (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty HS) hit a free-throw bucket to tie the game at 58-58.

With just six second left, and the game tied, 58-58, Villa Julie's Tara Galvin (Baltimore, Md/Mercy HS) found Foster under the basket for a game-wining layup.

The game's hero, Foster , finished with a game-high 26 points, ten rebounds, two assists, three blocks and a steal.

The championship game, between the top seed, Keuka, and Villa Julie will be held at Keuka College, in Keuka Park, N.Y., at 2:00 PM, on Sat., Feb. 24.  The two squads will play for the first NCAA automatic qualifier in the history of NEAC women's basketball competition.  Keuka has won the last two NEAC women's championship tournaments.  Last year, in Stevenson Md., Keuka defeated the D'Youville College Spartans, in the championship game, to win its second consecutive title.
