2007-08 Women's Basketball Preview
Stevenson, MD - The Villa Julie Women's Basketball team coached by Chris Ramer (82-222) will be entering their 13th season under his helm. The Mustangs will need all his experience and more as they compete in the nationally revered Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) for the first time. Salisbury University, Gallaudet University, York College, Marymount University, University of Mary Washington, St. Mary's College, Wesley College and Hood College will grace the conference schedule this season. The Mustangs will also face-off in non-conference action against highly regarded Muhlenberg College, Frostburg State University and Catholic University. They will provide quite a challenge for the Mustangs after a successful stint in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) the last few years. They finished last season 19-10 while going 13-3 in the NEAC.
The 2007 roster has only 3 returning starters,
but it is also filled with many exciting, athletic newcomers that
could prove to be very valuable in the development of the program.
The Mustangs must also find a replacement for the loss of 4 year
starter Cara Hill, a first team all conference player with a career
total of a 1000 pts and 500 rebounds.
Players to watch this year are seniors Tanisha
Foster (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy) and Tonia Cristino
(Lancaster, PA/Hempfield). Both are 4 year starters that will
provide the leadership the team needs to compete in the CAC. Center
Tanisha Foster averaged 14 points a game last season and
contributed 10 rebounds a game. Point Guard Tonia Cristino
averaged 7 points a game and contributed over 100 assists during
the season. Even though the team will be very young and
inexperienced, a group of seven freshmen along with the
upperclassmen will help make this first season in the CAC an
exciting and hopefully a competitive one.
