Women's basketball opens season at Muhlenberg's Scotty Wood Tournament

Allentown, PA- On Friday, Nov. 16, Villa Julie women's basketball season began with competition in the two-day Scotty Wood Tournament at Muhlenberg College.

The team's first contest against Muhlenberg ended in a 73-56 loss for the Mustangs. With 14 points, senior guard Tonia Cristino (Lancaster, PA/ Hempfield) led the team in scoring, while junior guard Tara Galvin (Lititz, PA/ Manheim Township) added another 10. Denita Brown (Laurel, MD/ Montrose Christian), freshman forward, led the team in rebounding with 7.

The Mustangs went on to fall to State University of New York-New Paltz 75-50 in the tournament's consolation game, bringing the team's record to 0-2.  Brown and Cristino led the team each tallying 13 points.  Cristino added 2 assists and 3 steals; Brown led the team in rebounding with 6 and had 4 blocks for the game. 

On Nov. 20, the mustangs will take to the court for their home opener against Frostburg State University at 6pm.
