Mustangs Take First Loss At Home
Stevenson, MD-Villa Julie had their first game at home tonight hosting
Frostburg State University. They fell 48-46, bringing their record
to 0-3 while Frostburg improves to 3-0.
The Mustangs grabbed the lead quickly in the first half, increasing
the margin to as much as eight points. However, the Wildcats closed
the margin to only three points, finishing the first half with the
Stangs leading 25-22.
With back and forth play in the second half, the game was tied for
the sixth time at the 9:04 mark. The Mustangs held onto the lead
after a lay-up by Ashley Burrell (Baltimore, MD/Institute
of Notre Dame). With only 21 seconds remaining, Frostburg
tied the game once again. After a foul by Villa Julie, the Wildcats
took advantage and scored one last lay-up with only one second left
on the clock, winning the game 48-46.
Villa Julie was led in scoring by Tara Galvin (Lititz,
PA/Manheim Township) with 15 points and two steals. She
was followed closely by Ashley Burrell with 14
points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Denita Brown
(Laurel, MD/Montrose Christian) also tallied eight
rebounds.
The Mustangs return to the court on November 28 as they travel to
St. Mary’s College for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
