Mustangs Downed By Saints
Stevenson, MD- The Mustangs (4-9 (1-3)) hosted CAC-foe Marymount (11-1 (4-0))for an intense match-up this afternoon. The Mustangs were looking to break the Saints flawless CAC record but fell short 67-51.
Marymount went up 12-0 on the Mustangs in the first five minutes of the game. Tonia Cristino (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) stripped the ball from Marymount and Denita Brown (Laurel, MD/Montrose Christian) hit a jump-shot to put the Mustangs on the board. The Mustangs continued to battle against the Saints and cut a 16 point deficit to only 4 points with 1:20 left in the half. Tanisha Foster (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy) sank a layup with only seconds left in the half. Villa was down at the half 36-29.
Villa came out of the locker-room strong stealing the ball from Marymount and taking it the net. Again, the Saints took over the court and went up by as many at 16 and Villa cut them down to within 8 points with back-to-back layups by Foster. Marymount gained momentum and only the let Mustangs score 6 more points the rest of the game. Marymount finished on top 67-51.
Foster led the Mustangs in double digits with 20 points and 11 boards. Tara Galvin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) added 10 more points. Marymount's Meredith Levenson had 20 points on the day to lead the Saints.
The Mustangs return to the court on Wednesday the 16th to take on CAC opponent Salisbury at 6 pm.
