Mustangs Seal CAC Victory

Frederick, MD - The Mustangs brought home their second Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season after traveling to the home of the Hood College Blazers.

From the start of the match, the women created team synergy and were first to appear on the scoreboard. An assist from senior Tanisha Foster (Baltimore, MD/ St. Frances Academy) to three-point-shooter Tonia Cristino (Lancaster, PA/ Hempfield) established the Mustangs upper hand in the first 15 seconds. The women maintained control and managed 21 points while holding the Blazers to eight near the seven-minute mark. The teams completed the half 29-17 with the Blazers left to try for a comeback.

Making a good effort to take over the scoreboard in the second period, Hood came within four points of Villa Julie with 9:34 on the game clock. Not willing to give up their hard-earned lead, the Mustangs picked up their intensity. Foster laid up three consecutive baskets and assisted Tara Galvin's (Lilits, PA/ Manheim Township) three-pointer to seal a 10-point advantage for the team as the game came to a close. The Blazers were unable to stop the Mustang offense, and Villa Julie clinched the 66-51 win, bringing the team's overall record to 5-11.

Foster put up amazing numbers for the team with a total of 18 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and five blocks. Cristino totaled 17 points, 15 of which came from three-point range, Galvin added nine points, while Amanda Courter (Baltimore, MD/ Mercy) shot 100 percent from behind the line and tallied eight points.

Next up for Villa Julie women's basketball will be an away match against the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.
