Mustangs Down Bison
Washington, DC- Villa Julie (7-14, 4-8) went to our nation's capital to take on Gallaudet (3-16, 0-12) in a CAC match-up. The Mustangs only allowed the Bison to see the lead at one point during the game and came out with the win, 57-54.
Tanisha Foster (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy), who earned the CAC Athlete of the Week award last week, was the first to hit the net and gave Villa a quick 2-0 lead over the Bison. Gallaudet answered her shot and tied the game multiple times within the first fiveminutes of the game.
The Mustangs saw their largest lead of the half, 15-10, when freshman Allison Humphries (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) made a jump shot assisted by Morgan James (Baltimore, MD/Mercy). The Bison fought back to come within one-point of the Mustangs but were unable to grab the lead in the first half. Foster sank a free-throw to put Villa up 25-23 at the half.
Within 10 seconds of the second half, Tonia Cristino (Lancsater, PA/Hempfield) sank a three-point shot to increase Villa's lead. Cristino went on to steal the ball from Gallaudet's Nukeitra Hayes and Tara Galvin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) finished it off to make the score 30-23 in favor of the Mustangs.
The Mustangs saw their largest lead of the game when Cristino stole the ball and set up Ashley Burrell (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) for the lay-up to make the score 44-34. Gallaudet managed to grab some momentum and go on a 10-point scoring run to tie Villa at 44. The Bison saw their only lead of the game at 7:51 after a Mustang technical foul.
Villa bounced back and quickly regained the lead for the rest of the game. Kristen Steiner (Forest Hill, MD/Fallston) closed out the game with a steal and a free-throw shot after a Bison foul. Villa Julie grabbed the much needed CAC win over Gallaudet.
Gallaudet's Nukeitra Hayes was the game high scorer with 32 points. Cristino led the Mustangs in scoring with 14 points and Foster had another double-double game with 19 rebounds and 13 points.
