Steiner, Craig Lead Women in 57-53 Loss at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - After Stevenson rallied from a seven-point deficit over the last five minutes, Hood's Dyanna Prater hit three free throws in the final 21 seconds to give the Blazers a 57-53 victory Saturday at Fort Detrick's Odom Fitness Center.
The win was the first CAC victory of the season for Hood (4-12, 1-8 CAC) who snapped a three-game losing streak by winning just their second game in nine tries at home this season.
The second half featured four ties and two lead changes, the last of which came after a lay-up by Prater gave the Blazers a 46-44 lead with 9:24 remaining. She totaled 11 of her 13 points in the second half where she was 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
Prater was one of three players in double figures for Hood who was led by 18 points from Jen Willison. Kameran Evans also had 12 points while Brianna Raithel added five points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Stevenson (5-11, 3-6 CAC), who beat the Blazers at home, 69-55 on January 2, led by as many as 11 in the first half, 20-9 with 10:20 remaining. However, the Blazers closed the half with a 19-5 run to take a three-point lead at halftime, 28-25.
Following a free throw by junior forward Daniela Poss (Brookeville/Good Counsel) that gave the Mustangs a two-point lead, 44-42 with 9:54 left in the second, Hood used a 9-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at seven, 51-44 with 5:15 to play.
Junior forward Kristen Steiner (Fallston/Fallston) totaled her third double double of the season with 10 points and 16 rebounds, marking her sixth contest with at least 10 rebounds and second with 16. She also had 16 boards at Wesley on Monday.
After grabbing her 500th career rebound in Wednesday's 55-53 victory over Salisbury, Steiner now has 521 in 65 career games for an average of 8.0 per contest.
Junior guard JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose Christian) and sophomore guard Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) each had 13 points while Craig added eight rebounds and five assists.
The duo of Steiner and Craig totaled 23 points, 24 rebounds, eight assists and seven blocks.
Poss finished with seven points while freshman guard Rayshell Parker (Fort Meade/Meade) added six points, three rebounds and three steals.
Stevenson hosts Gallaudet on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
