St. Mary's Rallies For Win Over Stevenson Women

STEVENSON, Md. - St. Mary's (Md.) used a 19-6 run to rally from a 14-point deficit midway through the second half before taking its first lead and holding off a late Stevenson rally en route to a 65-53 victory Saturday at Student Union Gymnasium.
The win was just the third in the in nine road games this season for the Seahawks (6-13, 5-6 CAC) who took their first lead, 57-55 on two free throws by Stephanie Saint-Aubin with 5:56 remaining.
Saint-Aubin finished with a career-high 30 points along with a game-high 12 rebounds for her eighth double double of the season.
The game featured five ties in the final 5:56, but the Mustangs (5-13, 3-8 CAC) could not retake the lead as St. Mary's made 8-of-10 free throws during that time, including two from Pui Sham that proved to be the game-winners with three seconds left.
Stevenson led by as many as 15 points in the first half and by 14 with 15:31 remaining in the second where the Seahawks went 17-of-25 from the free throw line to offset a 33.3 percentage from the field.
Meanwhile, after totaling just eight turnovers in the first half compared to 13 for St. Mary's, the Mustangs had 11 in the second while the Seahawks had only two.
Junior forward Kristen Steiner (Fallston/Fallston) had a stellar all-around game with 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and four blocks. She also was 9-of-11 from the free throw line, including 6-of-8 in the final 4:07 to keep Stevenson within striking distance.
Steiner's free throw with 40 seconds left tied the game at 63-63 before junior guard JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose Christian) was whistled for a questionable foul with 2.5 seconds remaining that put Sham on the line for two shots.
Freshman guard Vanessa Rice (Oxon Hill/National Christian Academy) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, both career-highs, while sophomore guard Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) had 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Freshman forward Rayshell Parker (Fort Meade/Meade) had a team-high nine rebounds.
Stevenson begins a three-game road trip Wednesday at Mary Washington. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
