READING, Pa. - Stevenson women's basketball sophomore Kyarra Harmon (Waldorf, Md./North Point) totaled nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks while freshman Kendall Zickefoose (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) had four points, seven rebounds and three blocks in a 64-46 loss at Alvernia Wednesday at the Physical Education Center.
The Mustangs (3-2, 1-2 MAC) fell behind 9-0 in the game's first 2:33 and trailed by four, 15-11 with 11:27 remaining in the first half on a lay-up by sophomore Kayla Kelly (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial).
The Crusaders would extend their lead to as many as 25 points after a 21-0 run gave them a 36-11 lead with 2:35 left.
Stevenson trailed 40-17 lead at the half after going 8-for-27 from the floor in the first half, including 0-for-7 from three-point range. The team was also 1-for-3 from the free throw line while Alvernia was 11-for-19.
The Mustangs outscored the Crusaders 29-24 in the second half and cut their deficit to 15 on a three-pointer by sophomore Abbey DeFeo (Columbia, Md./River Hill) with 4:05 to play, but that would be as close as they would get in suffering their first road loss of the season.
Freshman Ruth Casadevall (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wallenpaupack) finished with eight points and five steals.
Kayla Long led Alvernia (4-2, 2-1 MAC) with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead five Crusaders in double figures. Brittany Young led all scorers with 14 points.
Stevenson travels to Widener on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m., tip-off with the Pride.
