ANNVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson women's basketball junior Kayla Kelly was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference Second Team, becoming just the third player to earn all-conference honors, while head coach Jackie Boswell was named the Coach of the Year announced Thursday.
Kelly is the first player to earn an all-conference selection since the 2006-07 season when Cara Hill '07 and Tanisha Foster '08 were named to the North Eastern Atlantic Conference first and second team, respectiviely. Hill and Foster combined to earn five all-conference honors.
This season Kelly led the team with 11.9 points per game while finishing second with 2.3 assists and a 42.2 percent field goal percentage which ranks 20th in the conference. She averaged 4.7 rebounds per games which ranks third on the team and totaled 1.7 steals per game which ranks eighth in the conference.
Kelly finished in double digitis in 17 games this season while also totaling four games with at least 20 points. She scored a career-high 28 points in a 66-61 victory over Alvernia on Nov. 26, 2013 making a school record 13 field goals. On Dec. 17, 2013, she dished out a career-high nine assists which is tied for second in school history.
Her 321 points this season ranks seventh in school history while her 129 made field goals ranks fifth. On Feb. 18 she scored her 500th career-point and now has 545 for her career.
Boswell earns coach of the year honors in just her third season with the team. She led the Mustangs to 14 wins this season, which ranks third in the programs 19-year history. She also guided the team to a fourth place finish with 11 conference wins which nearly tripled the teams conference wins a season ago. The 2012-13 team finished eighth in the conference.
Boswell also guided the team to an above .500 record for the first time since the 2006-07 season and just the third time overall while also winning a postseason game for the first time in seven years.
On March 16, Boswell will coach in the Second-Annual MAC Senior All-Star Game which features seniors in the Commonwealth Conference versus seniors in the Freedom Conference.
Stevenson (14-12) will await selections for the 2014 ECAC South Division III Women's Basketball Championship which will be released Monday, March 3 at 5:00 p.m.
