ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Sara Tarbert of the Stevenson University women's basketball team was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Senior Scholar-Athlete for her sport on Wednesday morning. Tarbert will be honored at the conference's annual awards banquet on May 2 at DeSales University.
The MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete awards are given to one senior student-athlete from each sport who exhibits top academic excellence and athletic prowess. The award is based 50 percent on academics (cumulative GPA) and 50 percent on athletic achievements.
Tarbert, a Nursing major, is a two-time MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year and a three-time MAC First Team All-Conference selection. In 2016-17, she garnered WBCA All-America honors and was also named a D3hoops.com Second Team All-American as well as the D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year. Tarbert finished fourth nationally in scoring (23.2 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (13.8 rpg) and was also a finalist for the Josten's Trophy as well as the ECAC South Player of the Year.
Tarbert established NCAA Division III records for double-doubles in a season (29) and consecutive double-doubles (30) this season.
Carrying a 3.41 cumulative GPA, Tarbert was named a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American this season and is a two-time Academic All-District selection. She is a two-time MAC All-Academic Team member as well.
This season, Tarbert led the Mustangs to a 19-10 record and the semifinals of the ECAC championship. Over her three seasons, Stevenson went 60-24 and made three postseason appearances.
