A very experienced basketball coach, Slopek continues his sixth season at Stevenson. He is in charge of recruiting for the Mustangs.
The 2010 Howard County Coach of the Year, Slopek led the Centennial High School girls' basketball team from 2005 to 2010. He is currently second in school history for most career wins. He led the team to the MPSSAA Basketball State Final Four, the highest region tournament finish since 1997 and won the 3A East Region Championship.
Slopek also coached the Howard County All-Star team in 2007.
From 2009-10, Slopek coached the Columbia Ravens AAU women's basketball team. He helped the team to the Maryland State AAU Semi-Finals. The team finished 20 out of 64 teams at the Penn State Invitational Tournament and 22 out of 64 in the Deep South Classic.
Slopek was also the assistant coach for the Baltimore Cougars AAU women's basketball team from 2006-07. In 2006, the team finished in the top 15 in the nation and both years won the Maryland State AAU Championship.
A successful coach for the Centennial High School women's cross country team from 2003 to 2009, Slopek was named Howard County Coach of the Year in 2004. The team won a 3A East Region Championship in 2004. In 2009, the team finished third in Howard County. Slopek helped the team make eight-straight appearances in the top-4 and also served as the 3A East Region Cross Country Director from 2007-09.
Slopek is as a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, National Federation of High School Coaches and National Educators of America.
Slopek graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Slippery Rock University in 2002. He went on to earn his master's degree in sports management with an emphasis on coaching theory and strategy in 2010 from American Public University.
