Villa Takes First Win at Home

The Women’s Lacrosse team (1-1) took their first home game
of the season with a win, 23-4. They hosted the Wesley Wolverines
(0-1).
Within the first two minutes of play, Wesley capitalized on a
free-position opportunity and scored the first goal of the game.
Villa returned with a goal by Ashley Cathcart
(Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) assisted by Lauren
Zegowitz (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus). The Mustangs
continued to score with a total of 13 consecutive goals for the
half, leading 13-1.
The second half began with a goal at the 28:35 mark by
Kristyna Hnizda (Manchester, MD/North Carroll),
followed by two Wesley goals. Villa grabbed four more goals before
Wesley earned their fourth and final goal of the game. The Mustangs
went on to tally five more goals for a final of 23-4.
Villa took 54 shots and earned 32 groundballs to Wesley’s
five shots and ten groundballs. Megan Weiss (Odenton,
MD/Elizabeth Seton), Jamie Jones (Glen Burnie,
MD/Glen Burnie), Brittany Connelly (Catonsville,
MD/Catonsville), Julie Olson (Spofford,
NH/Keene), and Mandi Carr (Crownsville, MD/Old
Mill) led the team with three goals each. Defensively, the
Mustangs were led by Cathcart, Patricia
Kauffman (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney), and Brittany
Hilton (Barnesville, MD/Poolesville) with
three caused turnovers each.
Villa returns to home field on March 1 versus Randolph-Macon at
12:00 p.m.
