Women's Lacrosse Grabs Second Win at Home

The Mustangs (2-1) overtook the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (0-2) in a close competition, 10-9. Villa took 29 shots and earned 21 groundballs to Randolph-Macon’s 19 shots and 17 groundballs.

Villa’s Brittany Connelly (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) scored the first goal at the 20:40 mark assisted by Lisa Baker (Westminster, MD/Westminster). She was followed by four more Mustangs goals before the Yellow Jackets scored at 13:46. Randolph-Macon and Villa added one more goal each to bring the half to a close with the Mustangs leading 6-2.

Villa returned to the field in the second half to grab two goals in the first minute. Randolph-Macon made a comeback with five consecutive goals to close the gap to 8-7. Julie Olson (Spofford, NH/Keene) capitalized on a free position opportunity to maintain the lead. Lauren Zegowitz (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) scored another Mustang goal, but Randolph-Macon grabbed two more goals at the 5:45 and :36 marks. After an offside’s call on the Yellow Jackets in the last seconds of play, Villa took advantage and kept possession of the ball for a final score of 10-9.

Leading the team with two goals each were Zegowitz, B. Connelly, and Kristyna Hnizda (Manchester, MD/North Carroll). The Mustangs were led defensively by Zegowitz and Hnizda with three caused turnovers each.

The Mustangs are travelling to West Palm Beach for a match on May 6 versus Neumann.
