Mustangs End Regular Season With 18-2 Win at Hood
FREDERICK, Md. - Sophomore Lisa Baker (Westminster/Westminster) tied her career-high with seven points on three goals and a career-high four assists to lead the Stevenson University women's lacrosse team to an 18-2 CAC road victory at Hood in its regular-season finale Tuesday at Thomas Athletic Complex.
The victory was the fifth in the last six games for the Mustangs (9-6, 4-3 CAC) who are now just one win shy of posting back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time since 1998.
Over the last two years, Stevenson has a totaled a record of 21-11, tying the school record for most wins over a two-year period in team history.
Baker has totaled a team-best seven points twice this season, also equaling the mark with a career-high six goals in a 17-9 victory over York (Pa.) on February 25. Sophomore Megan Weiss (Odenton/Seton) also had seven points and six goals verus Lynchburg on April 4.
Weiss finished with three goals and four points against the Blazers (8-7, 1-6 CAC).
A total of 12 players scored for the Mustangs who led 12-0 and scored the game's first 15 goals before Hood got on the board with 19:04 remaining when Lauren Perzan scored off an assist from Kelsey Blackwell.
Baker had a hand in four of Stevenson's first nine goals and totaled all seven of her points during the team's 15-0 run.
Blackwell would then find Helene Butler less than six minutes later for her team-leading 21st assist of the season to cap the scoring for the Balzers in their season finale.
Seven Mustangs finished with two points each, led by junior Kristyna Hnizda (Manchester/North Carroll) and freshman Spencer Kraus (Mt. Airy/South Carroll) who had two goals apiece.
Freshmen Lauren Wynne (Clarksville/River Hill) and Samantha Parker (New Market/Linganore) each scored their second goals of the season while sophomore Colleen Albrecht (Ellicott City/Magruder) totaled a season-high two points with one goal and one assist.
Three Stevenson keepers had two saves each, including freshman Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park/Seton Keough) who earned her eighth win after totaling 30 shutout minutes in the first half.
Samp Liptrap made 12 saves for Hood.
The Mustangs will be the fourth seed in the CAC Women's Lacrosse Championship and they will host the winner of the York (Pa.)-Marymount game on Saturday. The Spartans and Saints play at York on Wednesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
