Women's Lacrosse to Hold Three Preseason Clinics

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson women's lacrosse team and fifth-year head coach Kathy Railey will be holding three preseason clinics this winter on January 31, February 7 and February 28 at the turf field on the Owings Mills campus beginning at noon each day.

The clinics are for players in grades 6-12 to help them get ready for the upcoming spring season. They will also feature instruction from the highly-accomplished Stevenson coaching stuff and demonstration from the members of the Mustangs' 2010 team.

Railey has 10 years of collegiate coaching experience and is a member of the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Last year, she led Stevenson to its second-straight 10-win season for the first time since 1998 and in 2008, guided the Mustangs to a school record 12 wins.

Assistant coach Erika Blozie was a two-time IWLCA All-New England Region and two-time All-Little East Conference selection as a goalie at Eastern Connecticut State where she still holds six of the seven career records for goalies including games, wins, saves and goals against average.

First-year assistant coach Shannon Burke was a 2009 IWLCA First Team All-American and two-time All-BIG EAST selection at Notre Dame where she finished her career second all-time with 106 caused turnovers, just one shy of the school record. She is also third with 139 ground balls and 124 draw controls.

Among the players assisting with instruction and demonstration are two-time IWLCA All-Chespeake Region First Team selection and senior Lauren Zegowitz (Gaithersburg/Damascus) as well as senior Kristyna Hnizda (Manchester/North Carroll) who represented the Czech Republic in last summer's FIL Women's World Cup.

The clinics cost just $30 and are designed to help players fine-tune their fundamental skills and improve their team play. Players will be split into groups based on age and ability. Goalkeepers will receive specialized instruction and are encouraged to attend.
