Mustangs Dominate Goucher College

Owings Mills, MD.-  The Mustangs dominated every facet of today's game versus Goucher College, and came away with a 6-2 victory at home.  Senior Rose Phelan (Carney, MD/Loch Raven) started the scoring by taking a lovely feed from senior Tonia Cristino (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield).  VJ outshot the Gophers 39-6, but were unable to break open the game early as the halftime score was 3-2.

Goucher's goalie Kellen Matthews stayed busy as she saved 14 shots in a losing effort.

Phelan scored off of a Cristino assist twice in the first half.  Then, Phelan opened up the second half with a quick goal and added an assist by crossing the ball onto the head of freshman Heather Redding (Street, MD/North Harford) for her first goal as a Mustang.  The final Mustang goal was scored when Cristino passed the ball off to Laura Robinson (Westminster, MD/Westminster) with five minutes left in the game.

The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday as they host Frostburg for a 3pm start.  The game will be played on VJC's Owings Mills campus.
