Mustangs Host Last Game of Regular Season

Owings Mills, MD- The Mustangs honored their seniors in the last game of the regular season this afternoon as they hosted CAC foe University of Mary Washington, falling 3-0. The Mustangs’ record falls to 8-10 (3-5 CAC), while Mary Washington improves to 9-3-3 (6-1-1 CAC).

Mustang defense held off the Eagles for the first 24 minutes, but Mary Washington found the net for their first goal of the game. The Eagles grabbed another goal four minutes later, and earned their third and last at the 62 minute mark. Goalkeeper Casey Brown (Barnesville, MD/Poolesville) had an impressive game with 16 saves.

The Mustangs travel to York College on October 28 at 2pm as they begin the CAC quarter finals.

Before the game, Coach Millar honored the 10 graduating seniors for their accomplishments and dedication:

Heather Donohue has played for one year on the Villa Julie College Women’s Soccer Team. She has participated in 4 games, starting 1. Coach Millar describes Heather as a hard worker in practice that is always willing to put in the extra effort to get better.

Lauren Healy has played for 3 years at VJC. She has played in 59 games, starting 51. Lauren has tallied 2 goals and 2 assists in her career. Coach Millar says Lauren is an outstanding midfielder that has won many physical battles against bigger opponents. A hard worker that always gives 100% effort in practice and in every game.

Katie Orlando has played for two years at VJC. She has played in 40 games, starting 35. Katie has tallied 7 goals and 3 assists in her career. Coach Millar describes Katie as the Enforcer – a solid midfield player who towers over her opponents. Always willing to learn and constantly strives to be a better player and student.

Kelly Townley has played for 3 years at VJC. She has played in 58 games, starting 13. Kelly has tallied 12 goals and 5 assists in her career. Coach Millar describes Kelly as a very creative player with an excellent right foot. A joy to coach, always in a positive attitude and is a valued member of the team.

Michelle Sadowski has played for 3 years at VJC. She has played in 48 games, starting 37. Michelle has tallied 4 goals, 2 of which were game-winning, and 3 assists in her career. Coach Millar describe Michele as an excellent defensive player that always strives to win the ball. A solid all round player that has excelled on this team.

Stephanie Ritgert has played for 4 years at VJC. She has played in 50 games, starting 24. Stephanie has tallied 4 goals and 1 assist in her career. Coach Millar says Stephanie is a physical player that will not get beat in a challenge. A great student who truly understands the meaning of the word teamwork. A true team player.

Rose Phelan has played for 4 years at VJC and has been a captain for one year. She has played in 74 games, starting 73. Rose has tallied 24 goals, two of which were game-winning, and 19 assists in her career. Coach Millar describes Rose as an unbelievably fast player that is one of the main attacking threats on the team. Always happy and makes everybody around her laugh. The only player fast enough to be allowed to wear pink shoes.

Tonia Cristino has played for 3 years at VJC and has been a captain for 2 years. She has played and started 59 games. Tonia has tallied an impressive 39 goals, 16 of which were game-winning and 17 assists in her career. Coach Millar says Tonia is a great offensive weapon – quick, skillful and a great finisher on the ground and in the air. A great role model on the team and leads by example.

Jenny Goodwin has played for 4 years at VJC and has been a captain for 2 years. She has played in 62 games, starting 37. Coach Millar describes Jenny as a true leader on the team. Commanding defender that has always worked hard in practice or on the field. Works hard in everything she does in life and her presence on the team will be missed.

Bethany Ferralli has played for 4 years at VJC and has been a captain for 2 years. She has played in 38 games, starting 2. Bethany has tallied 1 goal and 3 assists. Coach Millar describes Bethany as one of the hardest working players on the team, with one of the hardest shots in the conference. Our leader on the team, keeps everybody happy and is one of the funniest people you will ever meet.
