Women's Soccer Earns Spot in CAC Championship

YORK, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's soccer team's victories over Gallaudet on Thursday and Marymount (Va.) on Saturday finalized the six playoff teams for the 2008 CAC Women's Soccer Championship. The only thing to be determined now is the seeding.

Mustang freshman Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin) totaled her third hat trick of the
season, including second-straight, in the Mustangs' 5-1 victory over Marymount. Her three goals raised her season total to 21 to set a new CAC single-season record, surpassing Goucher's Sarah Weaver and Salisbury's Kate Weaver who each scored 20 goals in 1997 and 2006, respectively.

Eyler has totaled 47 points through 17 games this season and needs just two more to pass Sarah Weaver's CAC record of 48 set in 2006.

No. 25-ranked St. Mary's (Md.) (5-0-1) and Salisbury (4-0-2) are the only undefeated teams in conference play and are slated for a showdown next Saturday, October 25 at Salisbury.

Stevenson, defending CAC champion York (Pa.) and Mary Washington all still have a shot at finishing among the top two teams in the conference and earning a first round bye.

The Mustangs could be as high as the No. 2 seed, but no lower than the fifth, which is a drastic improvement over last season when they qualified seventh.

Hood is the sixth qualifier for the conference tournament and will be one of the four teams to participate in the first round. Wesley could still tie Hood for sixth place in the regular-season standings, but the Blazers own the tiebreaker against the Wolverines based on a 1-0 overtime victory on September 20.

The first round of the 2008 CAC Women's Soccer Championship begins Saturday, November 1 with the third and fourth-seeded teams hosting. The top two seeds in the tournament will receive a first-round bye before hosting semifinal games on Tuesday, November 4.

The championship game is slated for Saturday, November 8 at the home field of the highest remaining seed.
