Ross Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. - A day after being named CAC Player of the Week for the second time, Stevenson University women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) was named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. She totaled 17 saves while allowing just one goal in 200 minutes.

Ross' selection as CAC Player of the Week was the fourth for Stevenson this season as freshman Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin) has also been selected twice.

With a 1-0 win at York (Pa.) on Tuesday and a 1-1 tie at Mary Washington on Saturday, the Mustangs secured the No. 3 seed and a home game in the CAC Women's Soccer Championship, just one year after finishing seventh.

Ross made eight saves at York on Wednesday in picking up her 11th win and sixth shutout in 13 decisions this season. Five of her eight saves came in the second half where York held a 19-2 edge in shots and a 7-0 margin in corners.

In a 1-1 tie at Mary Washington, Ross finished the game with nine saves, her second-highest total of the season and three short of her career-high set at St. Mary's (Md.) on October 11.

Stevenson will find out its quarterfinal opponent on Wednesday when Hood travels to Mary Washington. The Mustangs will host the loser of that game on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m., at the Caves Complex on the Owings Mills campus.
