Mustangs Fall in Double Overtime at Gettysburg, 4-3

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Three different players scored for the Stevenson women's soccer team while junior Alex Hamel recorded a pair of assists but Gettysburg scored two unanswered goals, including the game-winner in the 105th minute as the hosts escaped with a 4-3 double overtime victory Wednesday evening at Clark Field.

  • The Mustangs (0-3) got on the board first as sophomore Bridget Heist netted her first career goal off a corner kick from Hamel in the 16th minute.
  • Just 6:09 later, the Bullets (1-1-1) tied the game at 1-1, as Molly O'Shea scored unassisted.
  • Gettysburg took a 2-1 lead in the 35th minute before Stevenson tied the game at 2-2, 1:24 later. Senior Sam Hooker scored her first goal of the season off a rebound from Hamel's free kick.

  • Sophomore Keegan Caffrey made three saves in the opening five minutes of the half, including one just 14 seconds into the period.
  • Despite Gettysburg taking the first six shots of the half, it was the Mustangs who found the back of the net first as junior Marissa Inglisa scored her first goal of the season on an assist from junior Brianna Christie. Inglisa's shot went over the head of goalkeeper Kerry Sammon.
  • The Bullets tied the game in the 78th minute as Alexa Bushey scored on a rebound after the ball bounced off Caffrey.
  • Neither team had a shot on frame for the final 12:30 of regulation.

  • Gettysburg dominated the extra time, outshooting Stevenson, 9-1, with the lone Mustangs shot coming at the end of the first overtime and went wide.
  • Following a corner kick, Lauren Miesemer scored the game-winner at 104:22.

  • The Bullets outshot Stevenson, 31-11 and held a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks. All three Mustangs corner kicks came in the first half.
  • Caffrey finished with seven saves, including six in the second half.
  • It is the first multi-assist game for Hamel who entered the season with one goal and one assist.
  • Hooker started her 60th consecutive game.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 8 when the Mustangs host St. Mary's (Md.) in the home opener. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
