Mustangs Open Spring Season with 6-3 Win Over Wilson

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson women's tennis trio of sophomores Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin) and Michelle Huber (Mt. Airy/Linganore) and freshman Sam Bauger (Bel Air/Harford Tech) each picked up two wins as the Mustangs picked up a win in their first match of the season, 6-3 over Wilson Friday at home.
Eyler and Huber picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, after teamming up for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles over Wilson's Sarah Loucks and Christina Shick.
Stevenson (1-0) led 2-1 after doubles as the team of Baugher and sophomore Erin Hogan (Thurmont/Catoctin) won 8-4 versus Sarah Emmel and Lauren Kershner at No. 3.
The Mustangs quickly expanded their lead to 4-1 after Eyler beat Loucks 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Bauger downed Shick 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Junior Ashleigh Smith (Kingsville/Mercy) then clinched the match for the Mustangs with her first career win, a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Christina Howard at No. 6 singles.
Stevenson returns to action next Saturday with another non-conference contest against Penn State Abington beginning at 2:00 pm.
