WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Stevenson women's tennis sophomore Svetlana Widell (St. Michael's, Md./St. Michaels) and junior Katie Fersch (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) posted the Mustangs' only victories at the 2012 MAC Women's Individual Championships this weekend at the Ralston Field Complex at Kirby Park.
Widell defeated Eastern's Jenn Balbi in straight sets, only conceding a single game each set at No. 3 singles in the round of 16. Advancing to the quarterfinals, Widell fell to conference rival Elizabethtown's Kristi Noecker in straight sets.
At No. 4 singles, Fersch defeated future conference opponent, Lycoming's Kendall Connors dropping a mere two games in the first set in the round of 16. Although falling in the quarterfinals, Fersch battled to a 4-6 second set, just shy of making it a three set match.
In doubles action, the Mustangs duo of freshman Alyssa Henry (North East, Md./Rising Sun) and senior Rachel Mullet (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) posted 3 games against the Albright team of Christina Peacock and Lauren Sperling, the most of any Mustang duo that weekend.
The championships conclude the fall season for the Mustangs. They resume action in the spring on March 3 when they face Randolph.
