Widell, Williams Leads Mustangs to Non-Conference Sweep of Delaware Valley

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson women's tennis team won its second-straight match with a 9-0 victory over Delaware Valley Friday at the Greenspring Tennis Courts. Senior Svetlana Widell and sophomore Ty-Chelle Williams posted wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles before teaming for a win at No. 2 doubles.

Widell won in straight-sets at No. 1 singles over over Delaware Valley's Melanie Mayhew before teaming with Williams for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Williams won her No. 2 singles match in three sets over Natalie Hoffman with a 10-8 tiebreak triumph in the final set.

Sophomore Ashley Pinter swept Karin Gaspirini at No. 3 singles while sophomore Emily Ostrander also won in straight sets at No. 6 singles.

Junior Ashlyn Hawbaker and freshman Colleen Martin had to win first set tie-breakers in each of their straight-set singles victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Pinter and Hawbaker won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles before Martin and freshman Jennifer Garcia won at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

The Mustangs travel to Shenandoah on Wednesday, April 1 for their first away match of the spring season. Start time is 3:00 p.m.
