Women's Volleyball Advances to ECAC South Semifinals

STEVENSON, Md. - Senior Alana Eller (Ellicott City/Centennial) and sophomore Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott Key) each had a game-high 11 kills to lead top-seeded Stevenson to straight sets victory over SUNY IT Wednesday night at Student Union Gymnasium in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III South Women's Volleyball Championship.

The Mustangs (32-7), who won 25-13, 25-16, 26-24, advance to the semifinals where they will face Cabrini who beat FDU-Florham 3-2 Wednesday. Stevenson will host the semfinals on Saturday with game times at noon and 2:00 p.m., before the championship Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Earlier this season on September 21, the Mustangs defeated Cabrini 3-0 at the Baruch Invitational. Game time on Saturday will be at 2:00 p.m.

Eller also had six digs while Katsampis had just four errors in 30 attempts. The Mustangs used a well-balanced attack as nine players had at least one kill, including a season-high four from freshman Brooke Gilley (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright).

Seven of Stevenson's nine points in the first set came off the servce of freshman Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) who finished the game with two kills and six digs. She also had six service points in the second set.

Junior Brittany Umetin (Havre de Grace/Mt. Zion), who was named All-CAC Second Team on Tuesday, totaled 21 assists and 10 digs while senior Julie Olson (Spofford, N.H./Keene) had a game-high 12 digs to go along with four service aces.

In Saturday's other semifinal, third-seeded Penn State-Behrend, who beat Washington & Jefferson 3-2, will face second-seeded Widener after the Pride defeated CCNY, 3-0. Game time will be at noon.
