LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the first time in school history, the Stevenson women's volleyball team has been mentioned in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll as the Mustangs received 13 votes, placing the team at No. 34 in the fifth poll of the 2012 season released on Tuesday.
Stevenson (19-2) went 4-1 last week with wins over No. 19 Eastern and No. 27 Johns Hopkins while also capturing the championship at the York College Spartan Invitational. The Mustangs also lost a heartbreaker in five sets to No. 9 SUNY Cortland.
SUNY Cortland slipped three spots to No. 12 this week, while Eastern remained at No. 19 and Johns Hopkins fell to No. 32.
With 19 wins this season, Stevenson boasts the second-most among the 36 teams mentioned in this week's poll and the most among the 18 teams in the Commonwealth and Freedom Conferences. The Mustangs and Elizabethtown are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the Commonwealth Conference. The two will play at Owings Mills Gymnasium on October 17.
Over the last two seasons, Stevenson has posted a 50-6 record while making the team's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship in 2011.
The Mustangs return to action tomorrow when they host a Commonwealth Conference contest versus Arcadia inside Owings Mills Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m. Stevenson has won 16-straight at home and is 20-2 in two seasons at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
