TOWSON, Md. - Stevenson women's volleyball junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was named co-Most Valuable Player at the Goucher Invitational as the Mustangs captured their third tournament championship this season with sweeps of CCNY and Lynchburg Saturday at Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
Stevenson (24-2) extended its win streak to eight with a 25-10, 25-13, 25-15 victory over the City College of New York and a 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 win against Lynchburg.
Gieselman shared MVP honors with Katie Long of Bridgewater (Va.) while junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Mustangs were declared champion of the Goucher Invitational by virtue of sets won and lost as they were 12-0 and Bridgewater was 12-1 with a loss in the second set to host Goucher on Friday.
It is the second consecutive year that Stevenson has captured the Goucher Invitational after they also went 4-0 a year ago with wins over Marymount (Va.), Goucher, Lancaster Bible and FDU-Florham. The Mustangs are 7-1 at Goucher's Decker Sports & Recreation Center this season and 14-2 over the last three.
Saturday marked the third tournament title for Stevenson this season after first-place finishes at the Stevenson Invitational, York College Spartan Invitational and the Goucher Invitational.
Isenberg totaled 25 kills in five sets on Saturday, posting 13 versus CCNY (5-12) and 12 against Lynchburg (16-5). She hit an amazing .765 against the Beavers in the first game, with 13 kills and no errors in 17 attempts before hitting .600 with 12 kills and no errors in 20 attempts versus the Hornets.
Meanwhile, Gieselman had 56 assists, five service aces and five digs, totaled 38 assists, two service aces and four digs against Lynchburg.
Junior Stacey Rex (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) added a season-high seven kills versus CCNY while sophomore Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) had six. Junior Jenna Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) was one short of her season-high with five.
Freshman Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Thomas Edison) led the Mustangs with nine digs.
Isenberg and senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) each had 12 kills against Lynchburg while Hudson added nine as the trio combined for 33 of the team's 46 kills. Senior Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) added six kills.
Isenberg also had 10 digs to go along with three block assists while sophomore Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had a team-high 13 digs.
Stevenson returns to action with a Commonwealth Conference contest at Alvernia on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
