Total Team Effort Leads Mustangs to Ninth-Straight Win, 3-0 at Alvernia
READING, Pa. - Led by a career-high six kills from freshman Kelly McKenzie (Nanticoke, Md./James Bennett) and season-high seven from junior Stacey Rex (Finksburg, Md./Westminster), the Stevenson women's volleyball team ran its current winning streak to nine with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-15 victory in a Commonwealth Conference contest at Alvernia Tuesday.
The Mustangs (25-2, 6-0 MAC), who were ranked at No. 29 in the latest AVCA Division III Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, won their sixth consecutive game in straight sets. The team is now 21-0 in three-set contests this season.
McKenzie's six kills tied her previous career-high set in a three-set win versus Cazenovia on September 15 while Rex tied her season-high set versus the City College of New York on Saturday at the Goucher Invitational.
Junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), who was named Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week on Monday, and senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) joined Rex in totaling a game-high seven kills.
Stevenson only trailed three times in tonight's game and just missed posting a .300 hitting percentage for the 11th time this season, finishing with a .293 percentage. During the team's nine-game winning streak, it has hit .300 or better and totaled 44 or more kills seven times.
The Mustangs look to remain unbeaten on the road this season when they travel to Gallaudet on Thursday. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
