Women's Volleyball Drops A Pair at W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at Washington and Lee University Saturday.  The Mustangs (11-11) forced a fifth set against Lynchburg before falling 3-2, then fell 3-0 to the host Generals in the nightcap.

  • Set scores were 25-20, 28-26, 17-25, 19-25, 15-9.
  • In the second set, Lynchburg (8-9) was serving for set point three straight times, but the Mustangs answered each time.  At 25-24, Moriah Savage and Victoria Prokic came together for a block, while Katie Leftridge had a kill at 26-25.
  • A Mustang attack error and a Hornet kill closed out the set.
  • Stevenson never trailed in the third set and closed the frame on a 4-1 win capped by a Mackenzie Blevins kill.
  • A Blevins kill and a block by Blevins and Prokic closed out the fourth set as the Mustangs forced a deciding set.
  • Lynchburg jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the fifth set.  Stevenson was able to get back within 13-8 but got no closer.
  • Leftridge totaled 18 kills, 12 digs and five service aces, while Darian Hileman and Blevins had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
  • Hileman also posted a double-double as she had 11 digs.
  • Sarah Riggin totaled 18 digs, while Julie Nightwine handed out a team-high 25 assists.
  • Lynchburg hit .217 for the match while the Mustangs hit .191.

  • Set scores were 25-23, 25-22, 25-20.
  • Washington and Lee (11-8) hit .263 for the match while the Mustangs hit at a .096 clip.
  • Hileman led the Mustangs with seven kills and 11 digs while Blevins finished with six kills.
  • Caroline Dangel finished with 13 assists while Emily Castro had 12.
  • Leftridge notched 11 digs.
  • The first set was tied 18-18 before the Generals ran off four straight points to build a 22-18 lead.  Stevenson chipped away and got within 24-23 before a W&L kill closed the frame.
  • In the middle set, Stevenson trailed 24-17 before a 5-0 run got it within two, 24-22.  Savage and Prokic each had a kill and a block during the run.

  • Leftridge's double-double was her seventh of the season.
  • Hileman has double-digit digs in eight of the last nine matches.

  • Stevenson is back in action Wednesday, October 10, when it hosts Frostburg State in a 6:00 non-conference contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
