Women's Cross Country Places Third at Goldey Beacom
WILMINGTON, Del. - The Stevenson women's cross country team placed four runners in the top-25, including sophomore Julie Bekier (Baltimore/Greater Grace Christian Academy) and freshman Meghan Najewicz (Baltimore/Perry Hall) who finished in the top-10, as the Mustangs posted their best finish of the season placing third at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational on Saturday.
Stevenson's third-place finish was its best of the season and second in the top five after the team placed fifth at the York Spartan Invitational on September 19.
Bekier totaled her first career top-10 finish in her fourth race as she crossed the line seventh in a season-best time of 22:49. She has been the team's top finisher in each of the last three races and on Saturday, shaved 44 seconds of her previous best at York.
Najewicz also had her first career top-10 finish in her third collegiate race as she placed 10th with a season-best time of 23:06 which was 1:46 faster than her previous best at York. She has finished second behind Bekier in the last two races.
Senior Brooke Witherow (Berlin/Stephen Decatur) and junior Lauren Redding (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) also had top-25 finishes with Redding posting a season-best time of 25:05 to place 23rd.
Redding finished 16th with a time of 24:04.
Senior Nicole Nash (Leonardtown/Leonardtown) competed in just her second race of the season for the Mustangs, crossing the line in 27:01 for a 41st-place finish.
Stevenson travels to Towson next Saturday to compete in the Goucher Classic.
