Mustang Women Place Sixth at CAC Championships

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Stevenson women's cross country sophomore Julie Bekier (Baltimore/Greater Grace Christian Academy) and freshman Meghan Najewicz (Baltimore/Perry Hall) each had top-30 finishes to lead the Mustangs to a sixth-place finish at the 2009 CAC Cross Country Championships Saturday at Heritage Park.

Stevenson totaled 166 points, 10 behind fifth-place St. Mary's (Md.) and 16 in front of seventh-place and host Hood. Salisbury won its second-straight conference title with a total of 30 points, just five in front of runner-up Mary Washington.

Bekier and Najewicz were separated by just 0.46 seconds as Bekier crossed the line first in 27th place with a time of 27:30.21 while Najewicz was right behind in a time of 27:30.67. The duo were the first two Mustangs to cross the finish line for the second consecutive race and fourth time this season.

Seniors Brooke Witherow (Berlin/Stephen Decatur) and Nicole Nash (Leonardtown/Leonardtown), competing in their final conference championship, finished 41st and 48th, respectively. Witherow was the third Mustang to cross the line in a time of 29:19.43 while Nash was fifth, posting a time of 30:26.02.

Junior Lauren Redding (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) placed 46th with a time of 29:54.03, her second fastest 6k time of the year behind her mark of 28:53 at the Don Cathcart Invitational on September 26.

The NCAA Mideast Region Championships will be held next Saturday, November 14 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
