CLEVELAND - The Stevenson University athletic department posted its second-best ever finish in the NCAA Division III Learfield/IMG Directors' Cup standings released earlier this week. The Mustangs placed No. 80 out of 338 schools that earned points in this year's standings. Stevenson's best finish came in 2014-15, when it placed No. 74 overall.
In addition, Stevenson ranked No. 2 among all Middle Atlantic Conference schools, trailing only Messiah, which finished No. 26.
The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
The Mustangs earned the bulk of their points in the spring season, as it qualified for NCAA championships in men's lacrosse, men's tennis and men's and women's golf. Both men's lacrosse and men's tennis won their opening-round NCAA contests. In addition, Stevenson earned points at both the men's and women's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Stevenson's other points came in the fall, as women's volleyball reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.
