OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's golf alum Ben Lukehart '14 recently qualified for next month's USGA US Mid-Amateur at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colorado.
Lukehart, a four-year standout for the Mustangs from 2010-14, carded a one-under 70 at Carlisle Country Club in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in a Mid-Am qualifier hosted by the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) on August 12 to place second. He birdied his final two holes to avoid a playoff with three other players tied at 71 who squared off for the third and final qualifying spot.
The U.S. Mid-Amateur, which is open to amateur players 25 and over with a handicap lower than 3.4, begins with two days of stroke play for 264 competitors at Colorado Golf Club and CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado on September 14-15. The top 64 players qualify for match play, with four days of match play concluding with the 36-hole championship match on September 19.
Lukehart was a four-time First Team All-Conference selection for the Mustangs, earning the honor twice in the Capital Athletic Conference and twice in the MAC Commonwealth and the CAC Player and Rookie of the Year in 2011. He was a two-time Ping All-Region selection.
