Watt Nets Two in Mustangs Non-Conference Victory at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - Stevenson men's ice hockey sophomore Chad Watt netted a pair of goals while freshman Ryan Kenny earned a win in his first career start as the Mustangs posted a 3-1 non-conference victory over Morrisville State Sunday afternoon at the IcePlex.

  • Early in the contest, the hosts fired a shot that hit off the post before senior Colin Woods recorded the first shot on goal of the game down the other end.
  • At the 8:52 mark, Morrisville went on the first power play of the game but Kenny stopped all four shots he faced after sophomore Luke Benitez recorded a shorthanded shot.
  • The Mustangs recorded the final five shots on net of the period, all by five different players.

  • At the 3:35 mark, the Mustangs went on the power play for the first time but recorded just two shots on net while another three were blocked.
  • Stevenson took the lead at the 9:11 mark on a delayed penalty as senior Nick Gray scored on an assist from sophomore Ryan Patrick.
  • On the ensuing power play, the Mustangs lone shot by freshman Austin Master was saved by Owen Liskiewicz.
  • With 6:33 remaining in the period, Morrisville went on the power play and scored a 1:13 into the man advantage to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The hosts went back on the power play with 1:29 remaining with both teams recorded a shot.

  • Morrisville started the period with 31 seconds remaining on the power play but did not record a shot.
  • Watt scored back-to-back goals just 16 seconds apart with the first coming at the 11:04 mark.
  • Seniors Chris Javens and Christian Ripley recorded assists on Watt's first goal while junior Aaron Murray dished out the lone assist on the second goal.
  • Two minutes later, Morrisville went back on the power play but for the second time, did not record a shot.
  • With 1:21 remaining, the hosts pulled Liskiewicz in favor for an extra skater but the lone shot on net was saved by Kenny.

  • Stevenson outshot Morrisville, 43-21, while the hosts won 32 of the of the 61 face-offs.
  • The Mustangs finished 0-for-2 on the power play while Morrisville went 1-for-4.
  • It is the second multi-point game for Watt and first multi-goal game of his career.
  • For Gray, it is his third straight game with a goal while the senior picked up a point in his fifth consecutive game dating back to last season.
  • Patrick has a point in all four games this season while Murray has a point in three of the four games.
  • Kenny finished with 20 saves, including eight the first period.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, November 22 when the Mustangs travel to Manhattanville for a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home on Friday, November 29 when the team hosts 10th-ranked St. Norbert in a non-conference contest. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
