No. 8 Bullets Pull Away from No. 19 Mustangs Late

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Eighth-ranked Gettysburg outscored No. 19 Stevenson 6-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 16-9 non-conference men's lacrosse victory at Shirk Field Saturday afternoon.

  • Gettysburg (3-1) scored four goals in a span of 3:08 to stake itself to a 4-0 lead at the 6:07 mark.
  • Gray McKee got Stevenson (1-2) on the board with an unassisted tally at the 4:40 mark.
  • The Bullets scored with 3:16 left in the frame to take a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes.

  • McKee struck again at the eight-minute mark of the second to make it 5-2 off a feed from Cam Leydig.
  • The two teams traded goals the rest of the period.  Gettysburg scored with 6:28 on the clock, while Will Smith scored on an assist from JT Thelen with 3:48 left before halftime.
  • After the Bullets made it 7-3 with 2:44 left, Ethan Christensen scored off a feed from Smith with seven seconds on the clock to go into intermission down 7-4.

  • Jacob Tatum scored 34 seconds into the second half off a feed from Christensen to pull the Mustangs within two, 7-5.
  • Gettysburg scored twice on a two-minute non-releasable Mustang penalty to go on top 9-5 with 6:32 left in the third.
  • The Bullets extended their lead to 10-5 at the 4:41 mark.
  • John Harrington scored for Stevenson with 3:29 on the clock as a penalty was called on Gettysburg to make it a 10-6 contest.
  • Thelen cashed in at the end of the two-minute Bullet penalty with 1:36 remaining off a feed from Christensen to pull the guests within three, 10-7.

  • The Bullets scored three times in a span of just over two minutes to build a 13-7 lead with just under 11 minutes to play.
  • Danny Buckwalter scored with 9:36 left, then Christensen followed up at the 8:13 mark off a Leydig feed to pull Stevenson back within four.
