Mustangs Net Two Second Half Goals, Down Immaculata 2-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson men's soccer team recorded a season-high 29 shots while netting two second half goals as the Mustangs won their second game in three days with a 2-0 non-conference victory versus Immaculata Wednesday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

  • After two consecutive blocked shots, sophomore Dale Boring centered the ball to junior Jay Smith who poked it on net with his left foot but it was stopped by Mikey Kalpokas.
  • In the 14th minute, the Mustangs (5-2-2) had a free kick at the top of the 18-yard box after a hand ball but a shot by junior DR Medtart was blocked out for a corner kick.
  • The hosts kept the pressure in its offensive end, earning another corner kick but a flicked kick by junior Pete Wickiser went wide.
  • Sophomore Jason Kahan ripped a shot from the corner of the six-yard box after a cross by classmate Sean McDonald bounced past players on both teams but Kalpokas recovered to block the shot out of bounds.
  • Stevenson nearly took the lead in the 28th minute as junior Tariq Lee hit the left post on a low right-footed shot from the top of the box.
  • In the 32nd minute, junior Dylan Holy played a threw ball for McDonald who was met by Kalpokas before Lee's rebound attempt was saved by a Mighty Mac defender.
  • On the fifth corner kick of the half for the Mustangs, McDonald found the head of Holy who sent his shot high over the crossbar.
  • In the final minute of the half, Lee carried the ball into the box before cutting back and firing a left-footed shot but it was right at Kalpokas who made the stop.

  • Just 22 seconds into the half, Smith carried the ball through the offensive zone before playing a through ball to Wickiser who beat Kalpokas low to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 54th minute, Morales played corner kick into the box that bounced off players and to the feet of Boring who ripped a low shot inside the left post to double Stevenson's lead.

  • Stevenson outshot Immaculata, 29-9, including 18-5 in the first half.
  • The Mustangs also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • For Wickiser, it is his second goal of the season, both coming at home. Meanwhile, it is the team leading fourth assist for Smith.
  • It is the first goal of the season for Boring who netted one in his rookie season.
  • Sophomore Matt Stellitano finished with three saves, all coming in the second half, for his second consecutive shutout.
  • Kalpokas led the Mighty Macs (2-6-1) with nine saves.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 28 when the Mustangs travel to Eastern for a non-conference contest beginning 3:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs returns home on Saturday, October 5 when the team opens MAC Commonwealth play versus Albright beginning at 7:30 p.m.
