GRANTHAM, Pa. - Messiah had seven different goal scorers as the 11th-ranked Falcons posted a 7-0 MAC Commonwealth victory over the Stevenson men's soccer team Wednesday evening at Shoemaker Field. The Mustangs currently sit in a three-way tie for fourth place.
- The Falcons (14-2-2, 8-0-0 MAC Commonwealth) had the first three shots of the game, including a shot on net in the fifth minute before the Mustangs first shot attempt by sophomore Sean McDonald was blocked.
- Messiah got on the board in the 34th minute after Trevor Goodling scored on a rebound after sophomore Matt Stellitano saved the initial shot by Matt McDonald.
- The hosts doubled its lead in the 39th minute before scoring back-to-back goals just 34 seconds apart to build a 4-0 lead in the 43rd minute.
- On the first shot of the second half, Messiah found the back of the net as Luke Groothoff became the fifth different Falcon to score.
- A minute and 23 seconds later, Ben Lefever gave the hosts a 6-0 lead.
- The Mustangs (10-5-3, 3-3-1 MAC Commonwealth) recorded their first shot of the half in the 65th minute as senior DR Medtart put a shot on net.
- In the 66th minute the visitors had a penalty kick after a handball in the box, but the shot by junior Jay Smith was saved by a diving Jared Palovich.
- Sophomores Will Earhart and Ryan Cruice each recorded a shot on net in the final 10 minutes.
- Messiah outshot Stevenson, 25-14, with the Mustangs only getting outshot, 11-10, in the second half.
- The Falcons held a slight, 6-5, edge in corner kicks.
- Stellitano finished with three saves in the first half before freshman Kristian Slaby totaled five in the second half.
- The Stevenson men's soccer team concludes the 2019 regular season on Saturday, November 2 when the Mustangs travel to Arcadia for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 2:30 p.m.
