WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team improved its MAC Commonwealth record to 3-1 after sweeping host Lycoming, 9-0.
The Mustangs (8-5, 3-1 MAC) opened up the day by winning each of the three doubles matches by the same 8-1 score. Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Ray McDermott improved their record to 13-7 in No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Andre Sturniolo and junior Douglas Vaughan won their fifth-straight match in No. 2. Freshman Richie Abruscato and junior Andrew Ryan moved their record to 5-1 with their fourth straight victory.
In singles play, Stevenson would take five of the six matches in straight sets. McDermott shutout his opponent in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, for his eighth win of the year.
Sturniolo took his match in No. 2 by a 6-1, 6-1 score for his ninth-straight victory, while Ly won his No. 3 singles match by the same score to move to 9-6 on the season.
Both Ryan and Vaughan took their No. 4 and No. 5 matches, 6-0, 6-0. Ryan has won nine in a row to move to 13-3, while Vaughan is now over the .500 mark at 8-7.
Abruscato won his No. 6 match in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 to improve to 9-3 for the year.
The Mustangs hit the court next in a non-conference road match against Shenandoah (Winchester, Va.) on Sunday, March 15 at 12:00 pm.
