Mustangs Seek First MAC Commonwealth Title, NCAA Berth Saturday

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Top-seeded Stevenson University will host No. 3 seed Messiah College in the MAC Commonwealth Men's Tennis Championship final on Saturday, May 4 at 11 am at the tennis courts on the Greenspring Campus with a berth to the NCAA tournament on the line.  Match time was moved up from the originally scheduled 1 pm due to the threat of inclement weather.  Live updates will be available.

  • Stevenson (15-2, 6-0 MAC Commonwealth) captured its first MAC Commonwealth regular season championship and finished unbeaten in conference play for the first time.
  • The Mustangs advanced to the MAC Commonwealth final for the first time since 2015 with a 5-0 win over No. 4 seed Arcadia.
  • Ray McDermott is 9-4 at No. 1 singles, while Andre Sturniolo has gone 9-3 at No. 2.
  • Stevenson is 77-21 in dual match singles action this season.
  • In doubles, Drew Ryan and McDermott have gone 11-3 at No. 1.  Sturniolo and Douglas Vaughan are 13-2.

  • The Falcons (7-10, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) upended No. 2 seed Lebanon Valley 5-3 Tuesday, avenging a 5-4 loss to the Dutchmen just three days earlier.
  • Messiah has captured five straight MAC Commonwealth championships and has nine total conference titles overall.
  • Galen Fitzkee has compiled a 7-7 (5-1 conference) record at No. 1 singles, while Alex Mantsevich is 6-6 at No. 2.
  • Andrew Bookman and Fitzkee have gone 6-7 at No. 1 doubles.

  • The Mustangs downed the Falcons 8-1 on April 16 at home.
  • Stevenson swept the three doubles matches and took five points in singles. 
  • Bookman defeated Ryan in three sets at No. 3 singles, while Vaughan was a three-set victor at No. 4.
