NEW ORLEANS – Stevenson University outdoor track and field assistant coaches Dave Berdan and Roger Erricker were both honored as U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mideast Region Assistant Coaches of the Year on Wednesday. Berdan was honored on the men's side, while Erricker was selected as the women's regional coach of the year.
Berdan, who also serves as Stevenson's men's and women's cross country head coach, helped guide the men's team to its first-ever Middle Atlantic Conference outdoor title after the Mustangs won the league's indoor crown in the winter. Stevenson distance runners accounted for 53 points at the championship meet, which saw the Mustangs tie with Widener for the top spot. Sophomore Iddriss Iddriss also qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 800-meter run.
Erricker is the USTFCCCA Assistant Coach of the Year for the second time in his tenure at Stevenson, as he won the award during the 2016-17 women's indoor season. He helped guide the Mustang women's team to a second-place finish at the MAC outdoor meet, their highest-ever placing. A total of 88 of the team's 131 points came from jumps, sprints and combined event athletes that Erricker worked with.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
