Mustangs Win Four Events at Hopkins/Loyola Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Stevenson men's track and field team took first place in four events at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational. The Mustangs, who are currently ranked third in the Mideast region, finished third in the team standings with 102 points. 

In the 1500m run, senior Langston Gash beat out University of Maryland athlete William Jones by .37 seconds with a time of 4:00.50 to claim victory in the event. Gash's time currently sits as the 14th best performance in the Mideast region. Senior Brett Olin took sixth in the event with a 4:12.71, while senior Sam Mercoli placed eighth with a 4:14.32.

Junior Nikita Kulick clocked a personal-best time of 9:35.56 in the 3000m Steeplechase to pick up the win for the Mustangs, while junior Iddriss Iddriss took first in the 800 by just .04 seconds with a time of 1:55.62. Senior Jackson Morrow placed fourth in the steeple with a 10:11.48. Sophomore Sean Dodson placed sixth among collegiate athletes in the 800 with a 1:58.62.

The Mustangs 4x100m relay team turned in a blazing time of 42.10 seconds, which was .41 seconds faster than second-place Bloomfield (Division II).

Senior Kendall Belser took fourth in the 400 with a time of 50.69, while sophomore Dereck Davis took 10th (53.39).

Stevenson also had a solid day in the field events. 

Senior Forrest Allen set a new program record in the hammer throw with a top toss of 44.44m, which gave him second overall. Allen picked up a third-place finish in the discus with a 39.96m throw, which set a new personal best. In the javelin, Allen placed fourth overall with a distance of 44.18m. Freshman Nicholas Rinaldo took eighth in the javelin with a 39.47, while sophomore Dustin Miller placed seventh in the discus with a 33.56m throw. 

In the shot put, Miller (10.68m), freshman Marcus Pugh (10.63) and Rinaldo (10.47) finished sixth, seventh and eighth overall. 

Freshman Hayden Otchere took third overall in the long jump with a personal record leap of 6.93m. Otchere's performance is currently third in the region and 19th in Division III. Otchere would also set a personal best in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 13.16m.

The Mustangs will compete next at the York (Pa.) College Twilight meet on Wednesday, April 17.
