Dereck Davis Nearly Qualifies for NCAA 100 Meter Final, Finishes 10th

GENEVA, Ohio - Stevenson University men's track and field sophomore Dereck Davis missed qualifying for the 100-meter dash final at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship by 0.003 seconds Friday at SPIRE Institute. He finished 10th overall in the field of 20 competitors.

Davis, running in the third heat of three, ran a personal-best 10.59 seconds, but was edged by Randolph Fry of Adrian by 0.003 seconds, as Fry ran a 10.579 and Davis a 10.582.  He entered the championship seeded No. 17 out of 20 with his previous collegiate best of 10.61 qualifying him for nationals.

The Stevenson men's track and field season concludes Saturday as Patrick Watson competes in the 3000-meter steeplechase final at 11:45 am.
