BUFFALO, N.Y. - Stevenson men's volleyball senior Kyle Wisner totaled 14 kills and 11 block assists while senior David Moler had 44 assists, 12 digs and six total blocks, but D'Youville rallied, winning the final two sets en route to a 13-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-23, 15-11 non-conference victory Sunday at College Center Gymnasium.
The 14th-ranked Mustangs (3-3) suffered their first loss in three road games this season.
Stevenson won the first and third set, totaling 26 kills and a .397 hitting percentage. However, the team managed just 28 kills and a .064 hitting percentage in the other three after committing 22 errors.
The first set was tied at 7-7 before the Mustangs ended it with an 18-6 run, highlighted by three kills from junior Kyle Pottieger and 10 Spartan errors, including seven attack errors.
The second set was back-and-forth with 15 ties before D'Youville scored the final four points.
Stevenson had to rally for the victory in the third, using a quick 4-0 rally to tie the set at 16-16. The team took a two sets to one lead, scoring the final five points behind the serve of junior Patrick Schuyler who also added two kills during the decisive run.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the fourth set before committing seven attack errors and two service errors to allow the Spartans to tie the match at 2-2. Trailing 22-18, D'Youville scored seven of the final eight points, five of which came on Stevenson attack errors.
The Mustangs led by as many three points in the fifth and deciding set, but the Spartans totaled eight kills with just one error for a .350 hitting percentage compared to seven kills and six errors for a .038 hitting percentage for Stevenson.
Sophomore Nate Ellis posted 11 kills and a .688 hitting percentage with no errors in 16 attempts. He also three total blocks. Pottieger had nine kills, six digs and two block assists while Schuyler added six kills, 10 digs and three block assists. Senior Scott Morantz had a match-high 17 digs.
Brett Cawthorn and Brock Tetreault had 16 kills each for D'Youville (2-4). Tetreault also had 14 digs for the Spartans who totaled 27 blocks led by nine block assists from Matt Loos.
Stevenson returns to action next weekend at The Clash at Kean where two of its three matches will be against nationally-ranked opponents, including No. 3 Springfield and No. 9 Rivier.
