OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Highlighted by six kills, six digs, three service aces and a block assist by freshman Jason Gardner, the Stevenson men's volleyball team posted a 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 Continental Volleyball Conference victory over Cairn Friday evening at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (4-2, 1-0 CVC), who have won three straight at home, have won nine of the last 10 matches versus Cairn dating back to the 2011 season. The lone loss came a season ago when the Highlanders won at home in five sets.
Led by four kills from junior Michael Fehrs, Stevenson hit .409 in the opening set on 12 kills and just three errors. The Mustangs also totaled four service aces in the set, including two by Gardner and one apiece by Fehrs and freshman Landon Shorts.
Shorts finished with six kills, three digs and two block assists. Senior Rob Wingert totaled 29 assists, six digs and two total blocks.
The Mustangs finished with 10 service aces, the most since the season opener when they totaled 15.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, February 6 when the Mustangs host a Continental Volleyball Conference contest versus No. 3 Rutgers-Newark beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Mustangs went 0-3 versus the Scarlet Raiders.
